It's a name Jon's familiar with, a little bit. He doesn't know much about the man, but he knows that Krusnik wanted him—not Jon Snow of Westeros, the Lord Commander who had...done his best, is how Jon thinks of it. Done everything he could to save lives, only to meet betrayal. Jin Kisaragi, on the other hand, is—someone powerful enough to have gotten on Krusnik's radar. To have drawn their attention to their little family in the first place.
And now he's here. And Ragna did not react very well to him.
Jon sits on the couch, runs a hand through dark hair. Lets out a breath.] Gods.
[It's exhaled with great resignation.
In the meantime, wherever Ragna is, Gerock of Ruffia's stern little face (and Grumkin's significantly more happy yipping) will greet him.]
[Not just Jin Kisaragi, but a Jin Kisaragi that they did not need to force past life memories or the Power of Order out of. It would simply come to them for free. Not that Ragna knew that.
He... massively fucked up with Harumasa. And now Jin was here too... apparently what he had was a panic attack... a nervous breakdown. Dammit...
Ragna seemed to have left that place the very fucking second he could and he was faster than Johan thanks to flight. He walked out of his room, seemingly after taking a long shower given how flat his hair was and the steam coming out of the bathroom door. He was too tired in every way to acknowledge the dogs beyond a single pat each.
But he just flopped on the other side of the couch where Johan was, seemingly hearing his exhausted comment.]
Mm. I want to say I've had worse dinners, but. [An awkward shrug.] I try not to lie very often.
[Dinners with the Starks weren't as bad as that even with Catelyn Stark steadily ignoring him. If this is what Thanksgiving's like with an entire family, he'd rather just eat turkey dogs at home and turn in early.
He's quiet for a long moment, before he reaches an arm up to give Ragna a side-hug. It's been rough for both of them.]
If you want, I'll break out the Coke from the fridge.
[Ragna knew logically what could be worse than what happened but what could be worse than what fucking happened...
Ragna accepted the side hug, even giving one back to Johan. He needed it more than he'd admit out loud... god, there was just so much to address but only one main thing Johan saw.]
... I never wanted you to see me get like that. It hasn't happened in... God, I don't even know how long. [Big Brother shouldn't be having panic attacks, he needed to be strong... he knew Johan knew better but the fact remained that it's not a way Ragna wanted to be seen.
He slumped lower into the couch.]
That guy that was there, he... Shit, it's...
[What a complicated mess, how did Ragna begin to explain this to his little brother.]
My past life was the bastard son of a lord. His lady wife didn't like me much, though I was close to most of my half-siblings. It made family dinners a little awkward.
[See, not as bad as this Thanksgiving, though it had been dysfunctional in its own way. Jon leans into the side hug, just happy that his brother is talking to him and seems to be doing semi-okay.]
...Niisan, I've seen worse sights than my brother having an emotional breakdown. It's fine. [Nudging him with a bony elbow.
After a moment, he chews on his lower lip, then nods.]
[Stupid fucking bullshit in Ragna's opinion. Stupider than this situation he got himself in. Family should be family and if you don't have something supportive to say to a kid, don't say it.
He sighed though. He's too prideful to let anyone see him break down, let alone his little brother.
...
His little... brothers.
No sense in mincing words here, was there. Johan was... Johan was a grown ass man. Who has been through his own flavor of hell. Feels condescending to hold anything back.]
Jin Kisaragi. That's what his name is. And he's... my past life's younger brother. "Ragna the Bloodedge"'s brother. I never thought someone from the past would show up like that. And everything just flooded back all at once.
[That's why he was in so much pain, why he broke down like that.]
[Family ought to be family, and at the very least, Jon would've appreciated it if she had treated him like a young boy first before her lord husband's bastard son who could've usurped her trueborn children. But maybe that was just...too much to ask. He can't really have it out with Catelyn Stark now.
Jin Kisaragi. The name is more than a little familiar. Jon's quiet for a long moment, fiddling with his sleeves.]
...I'm sorry. That it just all flooded back, just like that. [He couldn't have done anything, but still.] At least we know that he's here now. Will he pose any danger to you, to the house, to anyone around us?
Why're you sorry? Is it your fault Jin decided to show up in this world somehow? Don't be stupid.
[God forbid Ragna tell even his brother that there's no need to be sorry in a normal way. As for the other thing...]
... As long as you stay out of his way, he won't give a shit about anyone else. But he'd do anything it takes to track me down. He did in our past life.
[...]
That's when and if he remembers me at all. I don't know about you, but I'm not gonna take the chance that he won't remember. Not in this stupid town...
I know telling you to stay away from me is gonna go in one ear and out the other. But if you try and get between us and he does remember he will try and fight. He's a bitch ass motherfucker but he's not someone you want to take lightly.
[On Christmas, Ragna will find a package delivered to his door. Inside there is a tin of Christmas cookies (with enough cookies for both Ragna and Jon), a recipe notebook for Ragna to write down any recipe notes he wishes, and a drawn and painted portrait of Ragna and Jon together in a family photo type of image. it's high quality and it really does its best to capture Ragna and Jon's energy. The portrait has been put in a nice and very durable frame- so it can get knocked over without any real concern to damage of it.
It was thanks to Ragna he was able to get his brother back, so he felt it was only right to do something to show that appreciation and hope that Ragna gets lots of time with his own brother. ]
[Because he also worries about a certain coyote noticing his sudden absence, Harumasa also sends a text to Ragna about his plans.]
Hey, hero~! You might still be working on saving March right now, so I don't expect an answer back right away. Just wanted to let you know that I'll be visiting Flins' new house at the lighthouse with Jun and Varian~.
We figure I could do with some fresh air. It's not looking like I'll be getting better when next month is when Fire's dominant. So, better to get what I can of the outdoors while I can~.
Anyway~! I'm taking Cassie with me. So, don't worry about me. I'll be just fine.
[Ragna's going to find three things on his porch on his birthday. The first thing he'll see is very much the most eye-catching: a flower arrangement. There are a dozen red roses, a dozen pink roses, and a dozen white roses woven into a heart-shaped wreathe. In the center dangles a beautiful, red snapdragon and a dwarf sunflower that are intertwined together.
Under the wreathe is a package and a card taped securely to the top of it. Within the package is a lovingly wrapped gift in yellow paper. If by "lovingly" one means that the sender has covered it completely in Scotch tape. Once Ragna somehow manages to unwrap the present, he'll find a Kitchen Aid in the color red, a box full of assorted Japanese and Swedish snacks, and a beautiful wooden cutting board.
As for the card, it'll read:]
Happy birthday, Ragna!
The flower arrangement is safe for cats and dogs, don't worry. Anyway, here's to another year older! I'm happy that I get to celebrate another birthday with you. As another gift for you, I would like to treat you to a home-cooked dinner by yours truly~. We can invite Belle over if you want it to just be the three of us, but I'm also happy to just make it the two of us. It's your day, and I want to make you happy. Don't worry, though, if you've got plans with your family tonight, we can have dinner together on another night. No expiration date!
By the way, the snapdragon and the sunflower are enchanted to last for a whole year. The roses may wither and lose their beauty, but I want to believe that we can last longer.
[Ragna will receive a package at the door. Harumasa couldn't do flowers for the occasion, but this will have to do. Inside the package are two things: a box of strawberries coated in dark chocolate with a sprinkle of flaky salt, and a white cat plushy with a yellow bow around its neck.
And there's a note for him.]
Happy White Day, Ragna! I wasn't too prepared for it this year, but next year I'll be sure to make it up to you and Belle. Please look forward to it!
I wanted to see if you'd be interested in a movie date tonight at the Meropide? Just you, me, and Belle. Let me know if you're interested and the three of us can get dinner, too.
[God, what a stupid idiot this guy is thinks the coyote with so much fucking love and affection in his heart. He had to sort of push the habitual tsun away but when he calls its at least with less grumpy.]
... Figure out what you and Belle wanna eat and I'll bring it over.
